Acupuncture originated in China over 3,000 years ago and is a time-tested, safe, natural and drug-free health care system that is used to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease and improve well-being. It can help you return to peak performance by restoring the proper and continuous flow of vital energy, called Qi (pronounced “chee”).

How long have you been an acupuncturist?

I’ve been an acupuncturist for fifteen years and have helped thousands of patients find relief. For more information about me, please view: MyAtlantaAcupuncture Profile.

Can I get a free consultation?

Of course, free telephone consultations are available. Please call 770.905.5560 to schedule.

What should I expect during the first visit?

During the initial exam a full health history will be taken. Questions are asked regarding health, symptoms and life-style. Pulse and tongue diagnosis, along with an appropriate physical exam is conducted.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

Since acupuncture promotes the body’s natural healing ability, many conditions can be corrected or improved. Also, it is being recognized that acupuncture is a comprehensive system of preventive health care and health maintenance. The effectiveness of acupuncture extends far beyond the conception that it is only useful for chronic pain management or as an analgesic. It has been discovered by many athletes that acupuncture treatment helps them to reach optimum performance levels. Recently acupuncture detoxification treatments have been recognized as a valid form of therapy for chemical dependency problems such as drinking, drug and smoking. Throughout its long history, acupuncture has established a solid reputation as an excellent alternative for health care.

What Conditions Are Commonly Treated by Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is used to treat many physical, emotional and mental conditions. Please see Acupuncture Treatments

How does acupuncture feel?

Different sensations such as warmth or pressure may be felt, but the energetic sensation differs from pain. People often comment that the feeling is unfamiliar but pleasant and relaxing.

What are the needles like? Are they safe?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, about the size of a thick hair. They are solid, and nothing is injected through them. Over the centuries, refined needle insertion techniques have been developed which enable the skilled acupuncture practitioner to place a needle with little or no sensation.

The needles used in my practice are disposable, and have never been touched prior to your treatment and will be disposed of after treatment. They are pre-sterilized.

How many treatments will I need?

Since each person is unique, the number of treatments needed will vary. Among the determining factors are the type of condition, whether the condition is chronic or acute, and the vitality of the individual. Again, you should discuss your treatment program at the initial consultation.

How long does a session take?

Each treatment takes about 30 minutes.

hould I stop my more traditional medication?

Even though most people seek acupuncture due to dissatisfaction with traditional medicine, this is best discussed with your prescribing physician. It is not advised that you stop taking any medication without professional guidance.

Are there any cases where acupuncture is inadvisable?

A patient should not accept acupuncture if they are unusually hot, greatly disturbed, drunk or otherwise intoxicated, angry, too full, very hungry, or pregnant.

Does medical insurance cover acupuncture?

Many health insurance policies cover acupuncture treatment. Please make inquiries to your insurance carrier about their coverage.
